Women’s OBGYN: the questions you are too embarrassed to ask
Women’s OBGYN knows that talking about your private parts is something that you want to keep to yourself. Here are some answers to questions you want to ask but are embarrassed to ask.

There are bound to be questions that come up regarding your health over the course of your lifetime. However, many of these issues regarding sexually related parts of your anatomy are considered “taboo” or women are too embarrassed to bring up. This is unfortunate for many reasons, including:
  1. When speaking with your OBGYN or any healthcare professional, you should never feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. You should consider finding a new provider, if you don’t feel comfortable with who you’re with now, and find someone with who you feel more comfortable with and switch to them.
  2. If you delay finding assistance or treatment if your issue is causing you pain or discomfort will mean a delay in your emotional and physical well-being and health.
  3. The sooner you get the treatment, the better, especially in cases where your symptoms are a signal of a real medical problem.

Questions you should never be embarrassed to ask your OBGYN
The good news about this is that if there is anyone who is a part of your life that you don’t have to be embarrassed around, it’s your OBGYN. They look forward to putting your mind at ease and finding solutions to your questions, don’t be afraid, they have heard it all.

Here are some questions that you should never be embarrassed to ask.
  1. Can I be put on birth control? For women who are sexually active for a long time now, or are married, this is a straightforward question. For other women, it can be embarrassing, especially for women who have been raised in a culture where sex is frowned upon or taboo before marriage. These women will feel so shameful or embarrassed to ask, so they don’t and risk winding up with an unplanned pregnancy.
  2. What’s that smell? This is a perfectly normal question to be asking if you are noticing an unusual smell coming from around your private area. Sometimes a smell could mean nothing at all, other’s might be a symptom of a bacterial infection, yeast infection, or other condition that needs attention.
  3. Is it normal to have no sex drive? Your body’s chemistry can make you not want to have sex at all, the same as it can be responsible for discomfort. It’s hard to tell what a “normal” sex drive is anymore because we are so over-exposed to images of hyper-sexuality in women. You being comfortable with your sex drive is what is important. You and your OBGYN can look deeper into finding a cause as well as a solution by asking them about your lack of libido if that’s what you want to do.
